There had been info on the council's new green bin / blue bag recycling scheme which is being rolled out across the county. Sustainability officer Tina Brice recounted : "While it could be that our scholars are attempting to watch their finances, their actions could also help scale back their impact on the environment. "In fact, we will all use a few of these straightforward 'student' lifestyle qualities to give us rather more moulah in our pockets, and help cut back the amount of waste we ditch by around sixty per cent.". Re-use carrier bags when food shopping or invest in a 'bag for life'. Shop in markets food frequently has less packaging, and you can get recipe tips and concepts from the stallholders. Re-fill printer ink cartridges either by purchasing DIY refill kits or finding local firms that supply the service. Use both sides of a chunk of paper if you print documents, but ensure you check if you want to print first. Employ libraries, and loan books instead of purchasing books to save cash and stop you from possibly purchasing a book and then not reading it. Pass old books to chums or charity shops or look for 2nd hand outlets pay a fragment of the price and save paper. Consider employing a chalkboard or wipe board for telephone messages for other housemates / relations instead of using paper, or use them for making shopping lists. Stop food waste and save money on ingredients by cooking the right portion sizes for instance measure the quantity of rice or pasta need for the meal and just buy what you want. Share items and appliances with housemates or members of the family ( e.g.
Hair dryers, kitchen appliances, vacuum cleaners, and so on. ) rather than purchasing a new one of your own. CAPTION : Council sustainability officer Tina Brice talks to student Samuel Morgan, aged sixteen, from Llanelli, at Coleg Sir Gar's freshers' fair at the Pibwrlwyd campus, Carmarthen.
